Technological University Dublin Programme Overview
The primary objective of the “Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety” is designed to provide participants with the core skills to advise managers or their employers on a range of occupational health and safety issues. The programme will give participants an in-depth understanding of the key areas of occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation and guidance. The course focuses particularly on applying current legislation and guidance in the development of best practice in OHS management. Participants will also have the opportunity to review their employer’s existing OHS systems and complete an analysis of risk of their own workplace. Ibec’s Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety Programme has just been approved for membership of the Institution of Occupational Health and Safety (IOSH). This is the only chartered body for health and safety professionals in the world and has more than 40,000 individual members in 99 countries worldwide.
Who should attend?
The Programme is designed to provide participants with the core skills to advise managers or their employers on a range of occupational health and safety issues. Therefore participants are required to be working in the area of occupational health and safety or management or be intending to move into this field.

There are a number of activities and case studies as part of the course to ensure that the key knowledge and skills are practiced. Participants will be required to prepare a project of 2,500-3,000 words. They will also sit a supervised exam at the end of the programme.
The programme is delivered by experienced Ibec Health and Safety Executives who provide members with health and safety advice, consultancy and training on a daily basis. Programme participants are encouraged to express their views and experiences. The programme facilitates participant discussion to ensure a thorough understanding of the key points and their application. Case studies and exercises will be used to ensure a real practical understanding of each subject.
A flexible approach is used throughout the training programme and priority is given to the demands of the group.
